Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) is a new autonomous body. It was registered under Societies Registration Act 1860 and a Public Trust under Bombay Public Trust Act 1950. IBPS has been authorized by Indian Banks’ Association (IBA). www.ibps.in has received a mandate from the 19 Public Sector Banks also to conduct the Common Written Examination (CWE).
Common Written Examination (CWE) is conducted by IBPS as a pre-requisite for selection of personnel for Clerks and Probationary Officer/Management Trainee in the Public Sector Banks.
CWE is a Single Common Examination to fill the vacancies of 19 Public Sector Banks. The system of CWE for the recruitment of Clerk and PO/MT have been approved by all 19 participating Public Sector Banks and the Managing Committee of the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) with the consent of the Government of India.
Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) at the behest of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and Public Sector Banks became an independent entity in 1984 to conduct Common Written Examination (CWE).
IBPS CWE Participating Banks:
Total 19 Public Sector Banks have approved IBPS for CWE. These are nationalized banks of India.

Common Written Examination is commonly known as CWE in terms of IBPS. You should know that IBPS CWE is a new pattern of selection of Personnel conducted by Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IPBS) through Common written Examination (CWE).
First IBPS CWE was conducted in the year of 2011 for the PO/MT. Second IBPS CWE is also conducted in the year of 2011 for Clerks. More than 14.5 lakh online applications were received by IBPS for first CWE.
